The 4th Annual Interprovincial Lodge Day

September 30, 2017

The Interprovincial Lodge Day has come full circle and was back in New Brunswick on September 30th, the province in which it held its first meeting. The Acacia Lodge #49 in Moncton was our host and its officers opened the lodge for all those attending with the lodge master, W Bro. Andrew Libby, in the East.

This year the schedule deviated a little from what had gone before. Because of a previous booking by another masonic body, the lodge was not able to open at 2pm as in the three previous years.

Many of the brothers arrived shortly after 2pm and enjoyed masonic fellowship in the Masonic Club on the main floor of the building. At 4pm a delicious meal was served. This was followed by the opening of the 4th Annual Interprovincial Lodge around 5:40pm in the main lodge room on the top floor of their most impressive masonic building at 115 Queen Street in Moncton. The lodge was opened on the First Degree so that any new Entered Apprentice and Fellowcraft brothers would be free to attend.

The lodge room was filled to capacity with brothers from the three provinces attending.

The three provinces were represented by their presiding Grand Masters:

The Grand Master of New Brunswick
MW Bro. John A. Watson

The Grand Master of Nova Scotia
MW Bro. John M. Cody

The Grand Master of Prince Edward Island
MW Bro. Kevin B. Crozier

Prince Edward Island had the job of providing the Masonic Education for the day. It was given by W Bro. Michael Cameron. His topic was a very relevant one, Masonic Mentorship. In this time of declining membership, mentoring of our new brothers is of utmost importance. W Bro. Cameron’s talk gave insight into the origins of mentoring and its use and importance within our fraternity.

On the altar at the Acacia Lodge #49 are three Holy Scriptures: In the center is the Holy Bible of the Christian faith, to the left is the Quran of the Muslim faith and to the rght is the Torah sacred book of the Jewish faith. (Click to enlarge the picture.)

As has become a tradition at this annual meeting the host lodge for the day makes a presentation of a gift to the host lodge for the next Interprovincial Lodge day. This year the master of Acacia Lodge #49 presented the master of the Nova Scotia lodge to host the 2018 meeting, Truro Lodge #43, and its master, W Bro. John Inch, a Master’s Gavel and a Baton.

Once the business of the day had been completed the lodge was set at Refreshment so that the Acacia Lodge #49 officers could leave their posts and be replaced by the officers of Truro Lodge #43 who presided over the closing of the 4th Annual Interprovincial Lodge.

Too quickly another enjoyable day of fellowship had drawn to a close as the 4th Annual Interprovincial Lodge Day closed around 7:45pm. Once again the three jurisdictions had come together to foster the bond of brotherly love and prove that Freemasonry is alive and well in the Maritimes.

Once the Nova Scotia lodge, Truro Lodge #43, had taken their seats the officers were introduced. When the SW, Bro. Barry Stone, was introduced, he told the lodge that he was very pleased to be here as this was his father's lodge and his father was in the lodge tonight. He never thought he would be sitting in the West and taking part in the closing of a lodge meeting in this building.

After the meeting the father and son stood with the three Grand Masters for a photograph. Below we see L to R: MW Bro. John Cody, MW Bro. Kevin Crozier, Bro. Ken Stone, Bro. Barry Stone and MW Bro. John Watson.   (Click to enlarge.)
